Welcome to Film Cred

Hi. This is Film Cred.

Well this is Sara Sorrentino, writing on behalf of Film Cred. Right now, at this moment, Film Cred is a really pretty, yet empty, website and a chat room of ten editors and a handful of writers.

The concept behind how Film Cred will function is more important than any sort of origin story, so I’ll just get into that right away. The website is a front, you see. This is more like a writing workshop for our community of film critics and essayists that crave actual feedback. The endless cycle of sending out a pitch to a film site and never hearing back is more than frustrating. I want to be part of a website that is attentive to its writers, and inbox, and tells you where you need to improve.

Our goal is to give writers who are putting themselves out there a chance to develop their skills to get writing published elsewhere. We will provide new film critics and writers in-depth feedback on their writing, a community where they can work with other writers and editors to build their skills, and a platform where they can have their work published professionally.

Here’s some promises we’re going to keep right from the start.

  • We will give feedback on every writing inquiry/initial pitch that we receive, even if we don’t accept your pitch.
  • You are not guaranteed to be published on Film Cred, but we will never leave you hanging and we will tell you why we’re turning your pitch down.
  • Conventional samples are not necessary. Send us anything that shows us your writing ability, even a Letterboxd review.
  • A perfect first email isn’t necessary. We will follow up with questions. We will ask for samples if they’re not included at first and help you figure out the pitch if you’re not sure what you want to write about.
  • You will have the final say in the title of your article and the images included, with our help. We will not publish your work until you approve of the changes we made.
