We have been not-so-secretly working on our first ever zine – and it’s officially done! Going forward, we will release monthly issues, based on whatever theme we choose, containing three to four articles by our writers, art, and more!
Our first ever zine features:
– An introduction by our Editor-in-Chief, Sara Sorrentino
– Twin Peaks and its Fall Fashion by Rowan Willis
– Art by Sierra Laico
– Best Sweaters in Film, featuring words by Mary Beth McAndrews, Shea Vassar, Maxance Vincent, Jessica Scott, Rowan Willis, Sebastián Martínez Díaz, Tyler ‘Llewyn’ Taing, Zach Robinson, Sierra Laico, and Rohit Shivdas!
– The Cozy Charm of Good Will Hunting by Sebastián Martínez Díaz
– and finally A CROSSWORD PUZZLE!
This is one small part of our bigger goal…
Film Cred is growing and the next step is obvious. We want to pay writers for their work as soon as possible. That said, we will start paying within the next month (October 1st). The goal is to pay $10 per article, with five articles published a week. This will change some things, but it is still sustainable if we have to pay out of pocket.
That’s where Patreon comes in. Any money that comes from this Patreon will go directly to paying the writers. We have no other expenses and we will fully cover the website’s operating fees on our own. If we somehow make more than the initial $200 we need to cover the 20 articles a month we plan to publish, we will first raise the number of articles we publish back to 10-12 articles a week. After that, we will talk about raising the rate or paying our editors.
So – why become a patron of Film Cred?
You should contribute if you want to, but know that we will never throw our writer’s articles behind this paywall. In the end, it more important that they are able to have their writing on the website, where they can use it for their portfolio, rather than hidden here.
That said, we still want patrons to have perks. To start, we will have a Thank You page on our website listing everyone who’s a patron. On top of that, our $5 and up tier will include access to our monthly zine. And to be honest, the zine is awesome. I can’t wait for you all to see it.
We plan to expand these tiers to include more perks – but let’s see how launch goes first!
